A Saugerties man was arrested after police allege he stole, forged, and cashed a relative's personal bank checks.

The New York State Police Highland BCI arrested 33-year-old, Nikolaus Gastio, of Saugerties on two counts of 2nd-degree forgery, a class D felony and one count of petit larceny, a class A misdemeanor.

On Monday, State Police finished their investigation into the theft and forgery of a Town of Lloyd resident’s personal bank checks. Officials allege that Gastio stole personal bank checks from the victim, a relative, and proceeded to forge and cash the checks at a bank in Dutchess County.

Gastio was arraigned in the Town of Lloyd Court and remanded to Ulster County Jail on $2,000 cash $4,000 bond. He is due back in the Town of Lloyd Court on April 14.
