Route 9W Flooding Issues To Be Addressed

A stretch of Route 9W known for flooding will be addressed according to the New York State Department of Transportation. The Times Herald-Record reports the stretch of road that crosses Stork King Mountain was repaved with the intention of improving the situation but local residents have claimed it's actually worse off.

The project was just finished last summer and covered a more than five-mile stretch of road from Angola Road in Cornwall to an interchange just outside of West Point. The pooling is a concern as the weather gets colder as icy conditions could occur.

The Times Herald-Record attempted to contact Assemblyman-Elect James Skoufis for a comment on the situation but were unable to make contact. However, a statement from his office stated that the DOT will increase the capacity of gutters in the area, and all catch basins and cross pipes will be cleaned. A contractor will also be brought in to address issues with groundwater reaching the pavement through the road, an issue that was not a problem prior to the repaving.

A representative for the DOT stated the work would be done as quickly as possible, weather permitting.
