The New York Transit Museum has decided that one of the ways they would celebrate and honor Grand Central Terminal's Centennial this year would be with needle and thread, specifically through quilts.

The City Quilter, an amazing quilt store in Manhattan (yes there is a quilt store there!!) teamed up with American Patchwork & Quilting magazine to hold a national quilt making contest with the winners receiving the honor of having their quilts displayed at the New York Transit Museum Gallery Annex and Store.

The City Quilter even designed two new fabrics specifically to be used in the contest. There are 3 winners, 9 honorable mentions, and 18 finalists. The quilts are on display now until July 6, Monday–Friday, 8 am to 8 pm; Saturday & Sunday, 10 am to 6 pm. Admission is free!

Here's a link to see the winners, but it is so much better in person! So, the next time you're taking the train to the city, give yourself some extra time to see some amazing pieces of art to celebrate a New York landmark!
