A Hudson Valley man will serve jail time after pleading guilty to killing his girlfriend’s dog in March of 2015.

Michael Oramas, 31, of Accord was sentenced in Ulster County Court to six months in jail and five years of probation for killing his girlfriend’s dachshund dog, Roxy. Oramas was also ordered to receive counseling and won’t be allowed to own or care for any animal after his release from prison.

In October of 2015, Oramas pleaded guilty that he caused the dog’s death on March 26, 2015. According to the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office, the 8-year-old dog died from blunt force trauma injuries which included broken ribs, punctured lung, and broken mandible. Roxy also suffered other internal injuries which were inflicted upon her for urinating on household furniture.

According to the Ulster County Assistant DA, Emmanuel Nneji, the dog’s owner has a 4-year-old son and she lives with Oramas. The two are engaged. She was present in court and sought to have him sentenced to probation with counseling.
