A popular Hudson Valley diner went up in flames on New Year's Day.

On Monday around 10:40 p.m., local firefighters battled sub-zero temperatures after a fire erupted at the Rock Hill Diner off of Rock Hill Drive in Rock Hill.Arriving first responders were met with heavy smoke and fire coming from the back of the restaurant. Firefighters mounted an aggressive interior attack and contained the fire quickly, according to the Rock Hill Fire Department.

Fire damage was limited to the kitchen area, while the rest of the diner suffered smoke and water damage, officials say.

The Rock Hill Fire Department was assisted by the Monticello, Wurtsboro and Woodridge Fire Departments, Rock Hill EMS, Sullivan County Sheriffs Office, Sullivan County 911, Town of Thompson Highway Department, RHFD Ladies Auxiliary, NYSEG and the Sullivan County Fire Investigation Team.
