ATM Skimming Device Found at Bank in Ulster

Police are warning Hudson Valley residents and hoping for help after surveillance video allegedly shows a man placing a skimming device on a local ATM.

The Town of Ulster Police Department is investigating an ATM skimmer complaint that occurred at a Rondout Savings Bank on Sunday in the Town of Ulster.

The skimming device was attached to the key pad around 2:00 p.m. Surveillance video (photos above) allowed police to determine the suspect is a tall skinny white male wearing a navy blue “puffy” vest, a FILA truckers’ ball cap color black, white, and red.

Skimming is a method used by criminals to capture date from the magnetic stripe on the back of an ATM card. The device is smaller than a deck of cards and is normally placed near the ATM’s card reader. Other times small cameras are placed near the ATM so criminals can see you punch in your PIN numbers.

Ulster Police don’t have any more information regarding the Rondout Savings Bank suspect. Authorities hope that by releasing photos someone might be able to identify the man. Anyone with information is requested to contact the Detective Division of the Ulster Police Department at 845-382-1111.
