On the Fourth of July, a woman visited an inmate at a Hudson Valley prison with the alleged intent of giving the inmate multiple scalpel blades.

On July 4, New York State Police from the Wappinger barracks arrested 19-year-old Charisma M. Gonzalez of the Bronx for promoting prison contraband, a class D felony.

An investigation revealed that Gonzalez possessed two scalpel blades when she entered the Downstate Correctional Facility as a visitor, with the intent to provide them to an inmate, police say.

Gonzalez was arraigned at the village of Wappingers Falls Court and was remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $1,000 cash bail or $2,500 bond.

The New York State Police were assisted by the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision Office of Special Investigations.
