A New York man is accused of bringing a large amount of heroin into the Hudson Valley. The drugs were found by a local police K9.

On Tuesday, New York State Police in Monroe arrested 64-year-old Thomas L. Gregg of Syracuse NY for second-degree criminal possession of control substance, a felony.

Gregg was stopped for a traffic infraction on State Route 17, in the Town of Monroe. During the interview, troopers detected an odor of marijuana coming from inside the car, police say.

A state police K9 then sniffed out a large amount of heroin. Authorities quickly discovered Gregg’s vehicle contained around 7.9 ounces of heroin, officials say.

Gregg was arraigned in the Town of Monroe Justice Court and was remanded to Orange County Jail with no bail or bond. He is due back in the Town of Monroe Court on Nov. 6.
