A Hudson Valley man is accused of trying to fill in the bank of a trout stream near his home in hopes of enlarging his property.

Recently, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation officer Myles Schillinger was patrolling in the town of Ulster when he observed a large pile of debris on the banks of the Sawkill Creek.

Schillinger contacted another officer, Jeannette Bastedo, who responded. The debris included lumber, fiberglass materials, a tarp, plastic objects, PVC piping, carpeting and drywall, police say.

The property owner allegedly admitted to attempting to fill in the bank of the Class A trout stream to enlarge his property.

The unnamed man was issued tickets for disturbing a protected stream and unlawful disposal of solid waste. He is due in Town of Ulster Court in May.

The property owner agreed to clean up the materials and properly dispose of them, police say.
