A armed robber man who fled after he allegedly took cash from a local Subway was found and arrested.

On Tuesday around 6:30 p.m., a man displayed a knife and demanded money at the Subway sandwich shop in the Patterson Commons shopping center located at 3101 Route 22 at the intersection of Route 311 in the Town of Patterson.

The suspect was described as a white male between 50 and 60 years of age, approximately 5’9” and 200 pounds.

No one was injured, officials say. After taking an unknown amount of money the suspect fled in a pickup truck.

On Wednesday morning, a Putnam County Sheriff’s Office investigator, in an unmarked car, spotted the pickup truck in Kent. The investigator recognized the truck and its driver as matching the descriptions of the suspect and vehicle wanted in the robbery, police say.

After interviewing the driver, 47-year-old John E. Caputo, investigators charged him with first-degree robbery, a felony.

Caputo is awaiting arraignment. He faces 25 years in prison if convicted.
