A 42-year-old Hudson Valley man is dead after he was stabbed in the chest by a teen. Police need help finding the suspect.

On Thursday just before 6 p.m., City of Poughkeepsie 911 received a call from Vassar Hospital reporting that a stabbing victim was brought to the emergency room by a private vehicle.

The victim, 42-year-old Nakia Burton from the City of Poughkeepsie, was stabbed once in chest. He later died at the hospital. His name hasn’t been released.

The stabbing was reported to have happened on Smith Street in the area of Harrison Street. The victim was a passenger in a vehicle. Words were exchanged when a group of teenage man, between 15 and 18, crossed the street in front of the vehicle, police say.

During the argument, the 42-year-old began to get out of the car and a teen ran up to the victim and stabbed him in the chest, police were told. The 42-year-old fell back into the car and was driven to the hospital.

The suspect is described as being a black man between the age of 15 and 18 with a medium build and wearing a white t-shirt.

The group ran off in an unknown direction. Anyone with information is asked to call the City of Poughkeepsie Police at 451-7577.
