A Dutchess County woman is accused of stealing over $23,000 in welfare fraud.

On Thursday, the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office arrested 31-year-old Selene B. Gutierrez of Rhinebeck for welfare fraud stemming from a recent investigation.

An investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Detective Division, in conjunction with the Investigations Division of the Dutchess County Department of Community and Family Services, revealed that Gutierrez fraudulently received over $23,000 in SNAP benefits between March 2011 and Feb. 2017 by hiding the fact that she had outside income, police say.

Gutierrez was charged with welfare fraud, a class D felony. After being processed, she was arraigned at the City of Poughkeepsie Court and released to reappear in court in January.
