Only One Hudson Valley Hospital Receives ‘A’ Ranking

The self-proclaimed “gold standard measure of patient safety” reviewed 139 hospitals in the state, only one from the Hudson Valley was given an “A” grade.

The Leapfrog Group, formerly known as Hospital Safety Scores, announced new grades for the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, the first and only national health care rating focused on errors, accidents and infections.

Twice a year over 2,600 general acute-care across the county are reviewed. Over 30 measures, currently in use by national measurement and reporting programs, are reviewed. Each hospital is assigned an A-F letter grade.

The Safety Grade is becoming the gold standard measure of patient safety, cited in MSNBC, The New York Times, and AARP The Magazine, Leapfrog boasts on it’s website.

Of the 2,639 hospitals rated 823 earned an “A,” 706 earned a “B,” 933 earned a “C,” 167 earned a “D” and 10 earned an “F.”

In New York, 139 hospitals were reviewed with just 14, or 10.1 percent, earning an “A.”

In the Hudson Valley, just one hospital received an “A,” while two earned a “B.”
