This Hudson Valley resident has a lot to celebrate, as a party is thrown in honor of her milestone birthday.

While many of us moan about getting another year older, Florence Stone from Poughkeepsie was visibly delighted to attend her 103rd birthday on July 13. The River Valley Care Center in Poughkeepsie hosted a celebration in Stone's honor to mark the special occasion, complete with her favorite dessert; strawberry shortcake.

Florence could be found driving herself around town until recently, when she turned 100.

Florence Stone was born in 1912 and grew up one of 13 children in Manville, Rhode Island.  Florence met her husband, Harold, when she was just 17. After being forbidden to date at such a young age, she agreed to meet Harold on double dates with her sister. Four years later, the two were finally married and eventually had a son named Harold Jr. and a dog they called "Cappy."

Florence worked for most of her life. She was a yarn maker in Massachusetts, a cafeteria worker for Woolworth's in New York and spent 20 years working for IBM in Poughkeepsie.  Always active, Florence could be found driving herself around town until recently, when she turned 100.

Although a hearing issue makes it hard for Florence to communicate, it was clear by the look on her face that this 103-year-old was moved by the celebration. Happy birthday, Florence!
