Following an over four-year investigation, a Newburgh man was charged with insurance fraud after a home fire.

On Monday, Town of Newburgh police charged 52-year-old Alejandro Perez of Newburgh with attempted grand larceny and insurance fraud.

Perez was arrested after an over four-year investigation in connection with an incendiary fire at a home on Route 32 in the Plattekill section of the Town of Newburgh on Oct. 2, 2013, police say.

The investigation was conducted by the Town of Newburgh Police assisted by the Town of Newburgh Fire Investigations Unit, NYS Dept. of Financial Services-Criminal Investigations Unit, US Homeland Security Investigations and the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.

Perez was released on his own recognizance to face a pending grand jury indictment.
