Newburgh Man Accused of Dutchess County Stabbing, Burglary

A Newburgh man is accused of stabbing two people in Dutchess County with a large knife.

On Saturday around 6:40 a.m. deputies from the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office responded to Kent Road in the Town of Wappinger for a report of a stabbing.

Arriving officers found two people with non-life threatening stab wounds. Both victims were transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital for treatment and are expected to survive, police say.

Following an investigation, police allege that 23-year-old Kwame McDermott of Newburgh stabbed the homes occupants with a large knife and fled.

At least one of the victims knew McDermott, officials say.

McDermott was taken into custody in the City of Newburgh and charged with assault and burglary, both felonies. He was remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $150,000 cash bail.
