They seem to be everywhere and it's getting harder and harder to tell a scam from a legitimate call from an organization. Once again, there seems to be a new scam circulating, this time in Ulster County.

According to the Police Chiefs Association of Ulster County, area residents have reported receiving phone calls from an individual(s) claiming to represent the Ulster County Police Chiefs Association, soliciting for their annual fund drive. The Police Chiefs Association of Ulster County does not endorse or conduct telephone fund raising efforts.

If you receive this type of call or any that sound suspicious, resist the pressure to act quickly, verify the information before sending any money to anyone or organization, never wire money based on a request made over the phone or in an e-mail, especially to an overseas location. Wiring money is like giving cash—once you send it, you cannot get it back. If you are not sure, call your local police department.
