On Wednesday, September 13th a man was arrested after allegedly attacking another man with a baseball bat.

According to a press release from the New Paltz Police Department, at 3:41 am on Wednesday morning police were called to past assault at a bar on Main Street in the village. When the officers arrived on the scene they were met with the victim who had suffered injuries to his face and head.

The victim, and witness, told police that an hour before hand William Capuano, 28 of Gardiner, had attacked him at another location. After further investigation police discovered Capuano had  been involved in a domestic dispute and attacked the male victim at a residence in the town of New Paltz.

It was determined that Capuano had used a wooden baseball bat during the assault which caused numerous head and facial injuries.

Later that same morning, officers located Capuano and arrested him at approximately 4:28am. He was charged with one count assault in the 2nd degree and one count criminal possession of a weapon in the 4th Degree.

Capuano has been remanded to the custody of the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $10,000.00 bail, which was based upon a recommendation by the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office.

This case, while similar, has no relation to a previously reported assault with baseball bat story that took place in Saugerties.
