New York State Police from the Wurtsboro barracks arrested 34-year-old Alekos Patentas of Dumont, NJ on a felony charge of vehicular manslaughter in the second degree.

State Police allege that Patentas was operating a 2015 BMW M6 at a high rate of speed on Route 17 in Mamakating when he struck the rear-end of a tractor-trailer. Troopers say the September 7, 2016 collision caused the death of Patentas' passenger, 36-year-old Carrie Ganley of Bayville, NJ.

After a lengthy investigation by the New York State Police and the Sullivan County District Attorney's office, it is alleged that Patentas was impaired by drugs while operating the vehicle.

Patentas was arraigned in the Town of Mamakating Court and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of a $25,000 bond.
