Hibachi is coming back to Central Valley but in a new way.

In May of 2017, Gasho, in Central Valley closed their doors. The popular Japanese restaurant was open for over 40 years. But now, a new owner is coming into the old Gasho location to bring in a new Hibachi restaurant.

According to the Times Herald-Record, Restaurateur David Chen purchased the old Gasho location for over $1.5 million. Chen plans to spend between $600,000 and $800,000 to revamp the restaurant.

A name has not been set, but according to the Times Herald-Record, it may be called Iron Chef Woodbury, as a price couldn't be agreed upon to use the Gasho name. Chen is also the owner of Iron Chef Hibachi in Connecticut, Iron Chef Hibachi & Asian Fusion in Newburgh, and Kodomo Asian Bistro in Wappingers Falls.

While Gasho closing was a big story, an even bigger story was the fate of the koi fish in the koi ponds at the restaurant. According to the Times Herald-Record, rumors started spreading on Facebook that the fish were abandoned, causing people to attempt to rescue and feed the fish. According to News 12 Westchester, Taku Aoki, the original Gasho owner's son, has been paying for a professional caretaker for the fish.
