A nearly 7-foot snake was found in the bathroom of a Hudson Valley home.

Earlier this month, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation received a call from the Ulster Police Department regarding a large snake inside a home.

ECO Smith responded to the home and met with an Ulster police officer and the homeowners, who reported seeing a large snake in their bathroom.

After a brief search, the snake, a 6'6" black rat snake, was found in a spare room under a piece of furniture, officials say.

ECO Smith was able to coax the snake into a pet carrier and transported it to a nearby state forest for release.

The black rat snake feeds primarily on small rodents and is the longest snake found in New York State, according to the DEC. The snake is often spotted throughout Ulster County, officials say.
