With 2016 coming to a close it is time for me to reveal my favorites song from this past year. Each year I look back at the songs that stuck out for me and think about why they are my favorites. Usually they make the list because I like the artist and what they did with the video. But I also have to have them bring back a cool memory. You could say they become a sound track for events in my life so they hold a special place in my CD player.

Number five is Florida Georgia Line's H.O.L.Y., this song not only raced to number one as soon as it hit the chart but it stuck with you just as fast. It is a really deep tribute to being very much in love. However I laugh at how long it took me to realize that H O L Y was an acronym for "High on Lovin' You." I am not the fastest kid in the race sometimes.

Number Four is Tim McGraw's Humble and Kind a song that has us all looking at how we live our lives and asking if we could do more. This song was playing on the radio a lot in May when I made first ever trip to the Grand Canyon and if that piece of real estate doesn't make you humble nothing will in life. This song and the view of the Grand Canyon are etched in my mind for good.

Number three is Maren Morris' My Church, her debut single that is my new anthem for every time I need to just get in the car and drive a back road. A change of scenery can really clear the mind.

Number two is Miranda Lambert's Vice. This song is so amazing and the video could be used in a film study class with all it's symbolism's. The first time I heard this song I thought yes, just dust yourself off and move on girlfriend. When I saw the video for the first time I realized she was talking about a lot more than dust.

And my number one for 2016 would be Eric Church's Record Year. Ever since I was a kid I would go to my room and play records. The first time I heard "Record Year" it took me right back to the last time I did just that and wow it was a while ago. I realized I miss doing it so now I want a record player from Santa so I can listen to all my albums again in 2017.
