My Day at the Dutchess County Fair
Today was opening day of the 170th Dutchess County Fair, and after being awoken by thunderstorms around 4 am this morning, I was a little worried what the day would bring as I got set to broadcast from the fairgrounds today.
It was very odd to be on the grounds before it opened. It was so quiet, the rides were still, the games were still being set up and the smells of peppers, onions, sausage, hamburgers, and more were beginning to drift through the air.
As we got ready to broadcast, everything stopped as the National Anthem was performed to begin the day and, as if on cue, the sun broke through the clouds. What a great way to start the day.
Each year, I always look to see what the popular items to win at the games are. This year, if you are a minion fan, you are in luck. They are everywhere, in every size imaginable!
Once again this year, we have our limited edition Wolf t-shirts for sale during the fair. They are only $15 with the monies going to the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley. I wouldn't wait to long to get yours, the past two years we've sold out before the end of the week.
We also have very cool backpacks to hand out, thanks to NY's 529 college savings program. We went through box after box today and some folks were kind enough to pose for a picture.
Others were very sweet but a little shy.
Speaking of sweet, how could I resist?
No day at the fair is complete until I've seen some of the animals. This was in the Birthing tent exhibit. A calf was born last night at 10:35 at 85 pounds, but they certainly expect more to be born this week.
I also snuck in to hear to the sound check for A Thousand Horses, opening for Dan & Shay tonight. Trust me when I say the show tonight promises to be amazing!
The 170th Dutchess County Fair is open and waiting for you. The weather looks to be great this week and with all of your old favorite attractions, and a few new ones, it's a great way to spend a day with family and friends. See you at the fair!
