The Mohonk Preserve in New Paltz has activities going on year round. Opportunities for all ages to enjoy nature in the Hudson Valley during all four seasons. This coming Sunday they are holding an event that is fun for all of us bird lovers. Winter Bird Feeder Watch will run 10 AM to 11:30 AM at the Monhonk Preserve Visitor Center.
Hudson Valley bird lovers and families with children ages 6 and up are invited to join Christy Belardo, Mohonk Preserve Education Coordinator , to learn about a winter activity you can do right from your own window. You will be learning about birds that love to visit your feeders all winter. Christy will take you through identifying birds, record your observations and put them up online. Bring binoculars if you have them but if you don't know worries they will be provided.
You can become a Citizen Scientist by taking the observations you make at your feeders and submit them online to a National Database called Project FeederWatch. The birdseed pine cone you'll receive at the end of the program to take home will start welcoming birds to your window making it easy to become part of FeederWatch.
For this program Mohonk asks that children be ages 6 and that all children are accompanied by an adult at all times. No registration required. This is a free program.
