Two robbery's, one suspect now in custody.

According to a press release form the City of Kingston Police Department have arrested a man from Kerhonkson and charged him with a robbery in Kingston and another robbery in New Paltz.

Police say that the first crime took place on October 2nd at the Dollar General store on Foxhall Avenue, Sunday night, police said that a man entered the store with what looked like a dark colored handgun and demanded cash from the register and the clerk’s wallet.

The second robbery took place on Monday evening in New Paltz. New Paltz police responded to a call at the Shell gas station on the corner of South Ohioville Rd and Main St.

After noticing similarities in both robbery's the Kingston and New Paltz police departments launched a joint investigation and soon had a vehicle description that they shared with local agencies.

Town of Ulster Police located the suspected vehicle at a motel parking lot on Route 28 a short time later.

Kingston, New Paltz and Town of Ulster police located and arrested Bryan T. Avery, 42, of Sampsonville Road, Kerhonkson.

Avery was charged with 2 counts of robbery in the 2nd degree and was being held in the City of Kingston lockup while he awaits arraignment.
