Laundromat Owner Responds After Publicly Shaming Customer
Laundromat owner, Mark Pfeifer, has finally spoken out after publicly shaming a customer who bounced a check.
Ann Marie Shirley visited The Laundermat on Violet Avenue in Poughkeepsie last month. After forgetting her debit card, the customer wrote a personal check. Ann Marie says she was shocked when she saw her name on the business' sign announcing to everyone that the $72 check bounced.
The balance has since been paid and the sign has changed to the words "thank you." But that hasn't stopped The Laundermat from receiving a flood of criticism from customers and Hudson Valley residents who think the owner went a little too far by publicly shaming the woman. Mark Pfeifer, owner of The Laundermat, has finally spoken out about the incident. We talked to him Wednesday morning on The Boris and Robyn Show. on 101.5 WPDH.
Pfeifer told us this is the first time in over 30 years of business that he did something like this. We asked why he decided to post the customers' name and the amount of the money she owed. We also wanted to know if he would ever do something like this again.
