Earlier this week a local church was the subject of a robbery.

The Church of St. Joseph, which is located on 242 Wall St in Kingston, took to social media to ask the community for help.

Their security cameras caught a man entering the church and taking the money from the donation boxes. In a Facebook post they shared the videos and photos and ask anyone with any information to contact the Kingston Police Department.

The Kingston Police Department worked quickly and were able to find the suspect. In a press release the Kingston PD announced that 27 year old Jonathan G. Mead had been arrested in Port Ewen.

In the press release it states that Mead was "wanted for questioning in regards to the theft of a tip jar from an uptown business and an offering box from a church on Wall Street in the city of Kingston."

Detectives saw Mead around the Sawkill Road area. Mead then fled from officers, but was later apprehended.

Mead was charged with burglary in the 3rd degree, 2 counts of petit larceny, obstruction of government administration and resisting arrest. He was arraigned in the Kingston City Court and sent to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail $20,000 bond.
