Jason Aldean and Miranda Lambert help each other get over tough breakups in their new collaborative video for "Drowns the Whiskey" — or, do they?

The new clip opens with Aldean sitting alone in a bar, pensively singing about a love that he's lost and his inability to drink it off his mind. The camera pulls back to reveal Lambert over his right shoulder, also sitting and drinking alone, most likely for the same reasons.

"Whiskey's supposed to drown the memory / I've gone from one to one too many / And the thing that really gets me / Is how your memory drowns the whiskey," they lament in the chorus, which wraps Lambert's voice into Aldean's in a perfectly-placed high harmony.

When Jason Aldean and Miranda Lambert Unite? Chills

The characters appear to meet and click together as the "Drowns the Whiskey" video progresses, showing shots of Aldean and Lambert drinking, playing pool, laughing and playing cards. But they're never actually shown together, and those scenes are interspersed with shots of each character remaining alone and rueful. When the final cards fall at the end of the clip, it's unclear if they ever really met, or those are just scenes from some alternate might-have-been that they've missed out on.

Aldean and Lambert shot the "Drowns the Whisley" video at a Nashville bar called the Springwater Supper Club, and Aldean says the straightforward presentation is crucial to the way it represents the song.

"I wanted to keep the video simple and really let the heartbreak and loneliness come through," he observed in a behind-the-scenes clip from the video shoot.

Brandon Kinney, Jeff Middleton and Josh Thompson teamed up to write "Drowns the Whiskey," which is the second single from Aldean's current album, Rearview Town.
