That loud noise you're hearing? It's supposed to sound like that.

According to a press release from the Orange County Department of Emergency Services Division of Emergency Management, there will be a full volume test of the emergency alert sirens at Indian Point Energy Center. Indian Point Energy Center is in Buchanan, part of Westchester County.

The test will be on Wednesday, February 20, 2019, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. During the test, the emergency alert sirens will sound off at full volume, simultaneously, for a total of four minutes. The test will occur throughout the entire 10-mile Emergency Planning Zone (EZP) including the sirens in Orange County.

No action by the public is required during the test. However, if an actual emergency did occur, people would listen to the Emergency Alert System (EAS) radio or television for further instruction and more information.

Remember, when the sirens go off on Wednesday, February 20, it is only a test.
