According to Spectrum News Poughkeepsie is in the running for a grant that will improve the area in ways that will make it more appealing to tourist and residents. It's called the Community Thrives Competition put on by USA Today. The competition offers $100,000 and $50,000 grants. Poughkeepsie Mayor Rob Rolison tells Spectrum News that the City of Poughkeepsie needs "some TLC, and the city doesn't have the financial wherewithal to just go out and do these things"

The grant, if won, will  be used to improve education, wellness or art and culture. Rolison says that art is the focus of this grant, as a group called the Poughkeepsie Alliance submitted a video to the compeition with hopes that an art projected titled "Art at The Crossroads" will come to be.

Hopefully we can come together as a community to clean up one of our towns. Voting for the Community Thrives Competition ends May 12th. You can vote and find out more about the Community Thrives program at their website.
