Hudson Valley Teen Sentenced For Fatally Shooting Unarmed Man
A teen who killed an unarmed man and later fled to New York City was sentenced.
On Monday in Orange County Court, 18-year-old Devin Issac of Newburgh was sentenced to 18 years in prison for killing of a man in the City of Newburgh. In July Issac pleaded guilty to manslaughter.
On August 1 2016, Deandric M. Little and another man got into a brief argument, with Isaac nearby. At the end of that argument, the other man told Isaac to shoot Little. Issac shot the unarmed victim once in the torso.
Little was driven to the hospital and although he was able to walk into the hospital on his own, he later died from the gunshot wound.
“The City of Newburgh will be safer during the two decades that this defendant is incarcerated,” Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler said. “Those who think they can escape the consequences of having engaged in senseless violence by attempting to hide from law enforcement are sadly mistaken."
After the shooting, Isaac fled the area. Three weeks later he was found in Staten Island in possession of a gun, which was not the gun that he used in the homicide. The gun used in the homicide was never recovered, officials say.
