A Hudson Valley teen faces up to 10 years in prison for stealing two loaded guns which he allegedly sold for drugs.

On Tuesday in Ulster County Court, Hans Apelles, 19, of Wallkill pleaded guilty to burglary, a felony.

On Feb. 8, 2017, Apelles entered a home through a window in the Town of Shawangunk and stole two loaded firearms and other undisclosed items.

He later sold the firearms for heroin, officials say.

According to the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office, Apelles knew the family he stole from, a family that previously tried to help him with his drug addiction.

“This is a classic and sad example of one of the two things that heroin addiction leads to,” Holley Carnright Ulster County District Attorney said in a press release. “The other is death.”

Apelles faces up to 10 years in prison when sentenced on Sept. 20.
