A local team is dominating the Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth World Series.

Branson Missouri is the center of the youth baseball universe this week as teams from across the country battle it out for the championship title. Ahead of last night's first playoff game, the Poughkeepsie Lightning won three straight games, earning the top seed in this year's bracket.

Back in 2016, the Poughkeepsie Lightning made headlines by becoming the first team from New York to ever make it to the world series tournament. After a tough game against Norwalk, the team was eliminated after the semifinals. But this year's team seems to have found their rhythm, steamrolling through the competition so far.

Wednesday night was Poughkeepsie's first semifinal game against West Raleigh, North Carolina. Poughkeepsie showed no mercy, shutting out North Carolina 5-0, easily advancing to the semifinals.

We'll see if the Poughkeepsie Lightning can strike again on Thursday night as they play the Mid Atlantic team starting at 8pm. This year, all of the games can be watched live, with professional announcers calling the action. You can cheer the Poughkeepsie Lightning on by visiting the Cal Ripken Major70 World Series website and clicking on the link to watch the CRWS.
