Hudson Valley Teachers Among Highest Paid in U.S.

Teachers from the Hudson Valley are among the highest paid in New York and all of the United States.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the nationwide average wage for elementary school teachers was $60,830, $61,040 for middle school teachers and $62,860 for secondary school teachers as of May 2017.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics then placed New York State into 15 subdivisions. The Hudson Valley fell into three of those subdivisions: Kingston, Dutchess County-Putnam County and New York-Jersey City-White Plains.

Orange, Rockland and Westchester counties were included in New York-Jersey City-White Plains subdivision. All of Ulster County is included in the Kingston subdivision.

Below is the average salary for Hudson Valley teachers, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics:

Secondary School: $87,910

Dutchess County-Putnam County

Elementary School: $85,230
Middle School: $91,270
Secondary School: $81,200

New York-Jersey City- White Plains

Elementary School: $79,560
Middle School: $78,730
Secondary School: $85,950

Across New York State, only teachers from Long Island had a higher average salary compared to teachers from the Hudson Valley, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics notes that Hudson Valley teachers salaries are "significantly above the U.S. average."
