Is your local Target receiving a larger-than-life Super Mario transformation?

In honor of Friday's release of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for the Nintendo Switch, over 650 Target stores nationwide received a Mario Brothers makeover.

“While our fave mustachioed plumbers gear up, we’re over here dodging banana peels and flying turtle shells, and racing red carts up and down the aisles to bring you some extra-special fun—only at Target,” the company said in a release.

The transformation starts outside, with the big red Target balls now transformed into Mario and Luigi.

In 2011, the company turned the balls into beach balls and last year they were transferred into Pokémon.

The stores entrance is painted to look like a checkered starting line and as you walk through, motion sensors fire up flashing lights and play Mario’s theme song.

“Experience counts—it’s what keeps guests coming in and coming back to our stores,” says Scott Nygaard, senior vice president, Merchandising, Target. “So we’re delivering the fun like only Target can, giving generations of Mario fans a shopping trip they won’t soon forget.”

The transformation isn’t finished there.

A handful of karts are now “Super Target Karts,” featuring Mario, Luigi and Princess Peach.

“Leave Bowser in the dust as you do your Target run—and keep your eyes peeled, because we have an assortment of Mario and Nintendo-related products set around the store,” the company said.

It’s the first time the store has changed their karts.

Target is being very secretive into which stores received the Mario Kart makeover. A phone call wasn’t returned and a full list of stores hasn’t been released. The company simply says, “650+ stores across the country are going into full game-on mode, with larger-than-life Mario action.”
