The Hudson Valley is blessed with a well developed system of rail trails. Now, one of the areas trails have been named among the best in the country by the national Rails-To-Trails Conservancy.

The Poughkeepsie Journal reports The Wallkill Valley Rail Trail has been named on the list of "10 iconic rail trails" in the country. The list was assembled as part of the launch of the Conservancies new magazine, "Trail Traveler" which is a digital only property available on iPad and Android tablets.

Trail Traveler editor Laura Stark said Wallkill Valley was selected for a variety of reasons including it's beauty, being in the vicinity of historic sites and other local interests. The Journal continues with more information from Stark, saying users have offered up a perfect five-star score for the trail.

There's hope that one day the Wallkill trail will be connected with other trails in the Hudson Valley.

Here's an interesting time lapse video that will take you through the entire Wallkill Valley Rail Trail in just 13 minutes.
