Quick-acting police from the Hudson Valley are crediting with saving the lives of two men in different local counties.

On Wednesday around 10:20 a.m., Town of Wallkil police responded to a home on Decker Drive in the Town of Wallkill for a possible overdose.

First responders found a 29-year-old man who lives in the home unconscious on the garage floor.

The 29-year-old was unresponsive and demonstrating signs of an overdose, police say.

Officers began administering emergency first aid, including the use of department-issued nasally delivered Narcan. Within a minute, the victim regained consciousness and was transported to Orange Regional Medical Center, according to Town of Wallkill police.

The following day, Thursday around 1:30 p.m., Village of Wappingers Falls Police Department responded to 1575 on Route 9, the Tinkleman Plaza, for a report of an unconscious male.

A 30-year-old man was found unresponsive with shallow breathing and a light but rapid pulse lying on his back in the parking lot, police say.

According to police, the 30-year-old was overdosing on drugs.

Officers gave the man Narcan, but it had no effect. After the third dose of Narcan was administered
the man became responsive, police say.

He was transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital for further care.

Narcan is a drug that’s proven to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.
