A Hudson Valley man is accused of stabbing his pet dog

According to the Ulster County SPCA, 36-year-old Daniel Abbott of New Paltz used pruning shears to stab his dog, Bandit, in the hind leg during an incident at Abbott’s Ulster County home.

Bandit received medical care. He is being held and treated at the Ulster County SPCA’s Kingston location.

Abbot was charged with one count of unjustifiably injuring and animal, a misdemeanor, under the New York State Agriculture and Markets Laws. He was issued an appearance ticket and is in New Paltz Justice Court on Tuesday.

In related news, the Ulster County SPCA reports that a women from Gardiner was arrested for failing to provide necessary medical care to her injured alpaca, and allowed her other animals to live in substandard conditions.
