A Hudson Valley man may spend the rest of his life in prison for murdering his brother.

On Monday in Orange County Court, 38-year-old George Bawn of Blooming Grove was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison in connection with the shooting death of his brother on February 6, at Mountain Lodge Park in the Town of Blooming Grove.

“Our community will be safer during the two decades that this defendant will be in prison,” Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler. “This was an intentional violent murder of an unarmed man that is even more incomprehensible given the relationship between this defendant and his victim. I thank the New York State Police and the Town of Blooming Gove Police Department for their thorough investigation of this case. My office will continue to seek severe prison sentences for all who choose to use violence to settle their disputes.”

In September, Bawn pleaded guilty to murder. Bawn confessed he intentionally killed his brother, James Bawn, by shooting him. Prosecutors argued that the victim was shot four times in the head and torso with a .45 caliber pistol.
