A Hudson Valley man is credited with saving a woman's life who was unconscious in her flipped over burning car on the Taconic State Parkway.

On Thursday, New York State Police from the Hawthorne barracks investigated a personal injury motor vehicle crash on the Taconic State Parkway near exit 14 in the town of Yorktown.

One car went off the road, struck a rock wall, overturned and caught fire. The driver, 56-year-old Linda Gironda of Yorktown, was trapped inside her burning car, police say

Brian Geary, 30, of East Fishkill and another unknown person stopped to help Gironda prior to the arrival of emergency services.

With the vehicle locked and Gironda unconscious, Geary used a baseball bat from his vehicle to smash the windshield. Geary and the unknown person then pulled Gironda to safety, according to New York State Police.

Yorktown Fire Department arrived on scene and extinguished the fire.

Gironda was transported to Westchester Medical Center by Yorktown EMS with serious injuries.
