With the deep freeze that has set in this week in the Hudson Valley there are many of us turning to winter sports and some are even braving the cold for some outside fun. Ice Skating comes to mind for me as soon as the weather turns cold. Indoors or out skating can be enjoyable as long as you are dressed correctly and take your time if your are just learning to navigate the ice.

The Hudson Valley is full of great place to go skating. We have put together a list that has includes both indoor and outdoor venues.

Mohonk Mountain House - Skating is available at the Mohonk Mountain House. It is free to guests staying at the resort. With a day pass you can also enjoy this covered outdoor rink complete with fireplace for a fee.

Bear Mountain Ice Rink - One of my favorite places to ice skate growing up was the rink at Bear Mountain. Outdoor and set on the property of the Bear Mountain Inn it makes a great place for skating and after skating fun.

Ice Time Sports Complex - They are an indoor facility located on Lakeside Road in Newburgh and offer public skating, hockey and figure skating.

McCann Ice Arena at the MHCC - This indoor complex offers lessons, public skating, hockey and more. Located in the heart of the city of Poughkeepsie it is easy to get to with plenty of parking.

Kiwanis Ice Arena - Located in Saugerties at 6 Small World Avenue in the Cantine Veterans Memorial Complex. This indoor arena offers all types of skating and is open to the public.

Happy Skating.
