Brace yourselves, Hudson Valley.

Last week there was talk of a huge weekend storm that wound up being more hype than anything else. The storm never made its way north, so unless you were in southern New Jersey, you didn't even notice a thing.

This week, however, there is a storm brewing that some meteorologists say could dump a foot of snow or more on our area.

The National Weather Service is calling for snowfall starting on Friday that could last until Sunday. Right now, the winter storm is expected to be at its peak on Saturday with an 80% chance of snowfall.

The Weather Channel is predicting 5 to 8 inches of snow in Poughkeepsie on Saturday night, with another 3 to 5 inches of mixed precipitation on Sunday. If you're counting, that's possibly more than a foot of the white stuff.

We don't suggest you cancel your weekend plans just yet, but if you are expecting to travel you should stay tuned this week as the forecast becomes clearer. Be sure to download our free mobile app for any late-breaking weather information and updates to this story.
