Police saved the life of a 29-year-old woman in the Hudson Valley.

On Saturday around 1 p.m., officers from the East Fishkill Police Department were sent to an address on Warren Drive for a 29-year-old woman who overdosed.

Police were told the woman was in the bathroom, up against the door, and the caller was unable to gain entry.

Upon arrival, Officers Kenneth Knapp and Ralph Bertoldi were able to gain entry into the bathroom and quickly determined the woman overdosed on heroin, police say. The woman was found unresponsive with a slow pulse and shallow breathing.

Officer Knapp administered two doses of Narcan to the patient, who became conscious and alert while the officers were still on scene, according to the East Fishkill Police Department. Narcan is a drug proven to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.

The unnamed woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
