A Hudson Valley man lost his life on Thanksgiving while riding his bike.

On Thursday, New York State Police from Kingston investigated a car vs. bicycle fatal accident that occurred on Lucas Avenue Extension in the Town of Rosendale.

Shortly after 6 p.m., 40-year-old Richard W. Damms of Kerhonkson was riding a bicycle southbound in the roadway. It appears that Damms was hit when he turned into the path of a Nissan Pickup Truck that was attempting to pass the bicyclist, police say.

Damms was transported to Health Alliance Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The investigation into the accident is ongoing, but at this time police don’t believe the driver of the truck, a 37-year-old man from Rosendale, was at fault. No charges have been filed.
