When I was growing up, my Mom made everything from scratch and I mean everything. Bread, jellies, cakes, waffles, sauces and gravies, she even grew and canned all of our vegetables, plus she sewed most of our clothes when we were really young, but that's a story for another time.

Popcorn was one of our favorite snacks and we always made it in a heavy bottomed pan with a little bit of oil on top of the stove, no jiffy pop for us. My Mom would always point out that for less than the cost of convenience food you could get the main ingredients, make it yourself, and get more servings out of it.

The same is true today for microwave popcorn. There is a way to make homemade microwave popcorn that saves you both money and calories. I felt really proud of myself that I could share this with my Mom, so I thought I'd share it with you too.
