Hundreds gathered at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center in Poughkeepsie on Monday to mourn Timothy Gunther, the City of Poughkeepsie firefighter who died from a cardiac issue after battling fatal Church Street fire on May 4.

Firefighters from across the Hudson Valley and beyond -- Boston, Myrtle Beach and Danbury firefighters were represented in the crowd -- gathered at Civic Center Plaza to pay tribute to Gunther, who was remembered for his bravery and devotion to family and friends.

Mourners donned fake mustaches and several mustaches were stenciled outside the Mid-Hudson Civic Center in playful tribute to Gunther's signature handlebar facial hair.

The fire truck bearing Gunther's casket also carried his name. Pallbearers brought the casket into the Mid-Hudson Civic Center as "Thunder Road" by Bruce Springsteen -- a favorite of Gunther's -- played.

Gunther's family was presented with the International Association of Firefighters Medal of Honor and Medal of Valor awarded to him posthumously.
