A former Ramapo councilman is presumed dead after jumping from the Bear Mountain Bridge on Friday, New York State Police told LoHud.com.

Surveillance video captured Daniel Friedman, 30, walking to the middle of the bridge, which spans the Hudson River at the border of Putnam and Westchester counties and Orange and Rockland counties. LoHud.com reported Friedman was seen jumping from the bridge in the footage.

New York State Police divers and boats were searching for Friedman's body, LoHud.com reported.

Friedman worked for the Rockland County Legislature and taught at Rockland Community College, according to Nanuet Patch.

He was appointed to the Ramapo Town Board in April of 2010, elected to a one-year term in November of 2010 and re-elected to a four-year term the following year, according to LoHud.com.

This is a developing story. We will post more information as it becomes available.
