A two car head on collision in the Kinderhook area last night (Thursday, December 1st) closed down Route 9 for several hours.

According to News Channel 13 out of Albany, one person was killed and another five people were injured in an accident that took place on Thursday. The Columbia County Police department was contacted around 10:30 p.m. after a two car collision took place the intersection of Herrick Road and County Route 28 in Kinderhook near Route 9.

State Police were on the scene as the accident closed Route 9 until around 5 a.m. Friday morning. When help arrived one person had died at the scene and five others were taken to Albany Medical Center. One of the five injured was airlifted to the hospital, others were taken there by ambulance. There has been no update on the conditions of those brought to the hospital.

Kinderhook is located in Columbia County, a half an hour north from Rhinebeck in the Hudson Valley.
