The Woodstock Fire Department made Christmas dinner a little better for thirteen families in the Woodstock/West Hurley area.  The Woodstock Fire Department Companies 1,2,3, & 5 worked together collecting toys and food for the families and twenty-nine children.

Woodstock firefighter Jessica Jones of Company 1 is the Chairman of "Giveback" committee as it's known in the fire district.  According to Jones, firefighters work to raise money from within the department of which this year was about $3,000.  The money is supplemented by food donations from Hanaford and H Houst and Sons provides discounts on the purchases along with all of the gift wrapping at no charge.  Committee members purchased toys and gift cards for the families that were identified by staff at Woodstock Elementary School and First Steps Daycare in Woodstock.

When the gift and food baskets were ready, firefighters delivered them to the two schools on the Friday before Christmas.  When asked why she does it, firefighter Jones said "I feel that being in the fire department is not just about putting out fires, it's about helping the community."
