The incident took place on Wednesday February 15th in Saugerties.

Saugerties Police Department has announced through a press release that they have arrested Nicholas P. Kozak, 37, and charged him with Criminal Impersonation of a Police Officer in the first degree, a felony.

Kozak is the former City of Kingston police officer that was cited for drunk driving, leaving the scene of a rollover accident and possession of stolen property back in March of 2016.

Saugerties Police said that the alleged incident took place On February 15th, 2017 at 9:49 pm in the Village of Saugerties, where police stopped a motor vehicle that was being driven Kozak.

During the traffic stop with police, Kozak showed a Kingston Police Officers Badge and identified himself as a City of Kingston Police Officer, so to confirm the Saugerties Police contacted the Kingston police department and found out that Kozak was no longer an officer, that lead to an investigation.

The investigation wrapped up on February 21st and resulted in Kozak being charged with Criminal Impersonation of a Police Officer in the first degree. He was processed and then released on an appearance ticket and will appear in Saugerties town court at a later date.
